Nepal’s rugged landscapes and Himalayan views make it a trekker’s paradise, and the Tsorolpa Trek offers a unique blend of natural beauty and adventure. In this blog, I’ll take you through the journey, from early mornings on local buses to breathtaking mountain views, hidden waterfalls, and encounters with warm local hospitality. Whether you’re a seasoned trekker or new to the mountains, the Tsorolpa Trek promises experiences worth every step.
Day 1: The Journey Begins – Chet chet to Simigaun
Early Start and Long Bus Ride
Our journey started early as we headed to the bus stop at Jadibuti, paying NPR 1,130 each for the 9–10 hour ride to Chetchet. Normally, the trip takes about 7–8 hours, but due to Dashain, the bus frequently stopped to pick up locals, extending the travel time. The long hours on the bus felt tiring, but as soon as we arrived at Chetchet around 3:30 PM, the fresh mountain air and scenic waterfalls refreshed our spirits.
Trekking Uphill to Simigaun
From Chetchet, we crossed a bridge over the Upper Tamakoshi River and began our uphill hike to Simigaun, our first day’s stop. The trail consists mostly of steep stairs, and the path was lively with other trekkers taking advantage of the holiday season. The area was bustling, and since accommodations are usually full this time of year, I had pre-booked a room at Mitini Hotel, I decided to move ahead, leaving my friends to follow at their pace. After securing our room at Mitini Hotel, a Sherpa-owned lodge, I headed back down to meet them and was welcomed by vibrant landscapes of kodo bari (millet fields) and more fresh air that instantly eased my fatigue. Our stay at Mitini, run by locals, had a homely feel. We enjoyed a meal together and prepared for an early start to Day 2.

Day 2: Simigaun to Thangding – Embracing the Mountain Life
Morning in Simigaun
The day started with a gorgeous view from Simigaun, where the skies were clear, the river sparkled, and the mountains stood tall. After breakfast, we left at 7:30, meeting Nischal Bhai along the way, a porter working with another group, who would later become a friend and guide along the way.We hit the trail, following ups and downs through forests and trails littered with small waterfalls. The trail was challenging, mostly uphill, and my friends, especially those on their first trek, were struggling to keep pace. As I pushed ahead, I reached Kyalche around noon and decided to have lunch while waiting for them.

Conquering Landslides and Limited Accommodations
Our goal was Beding, but given the pace, I realized we might not make it in one day. We reached Kyalche for lunch, where I discussed with my friends the idea of stopping at Thangding for the night, as it was closer and easier to secure a room there. Heading towards Thangding, we encountered signs of recent landslides, which added an edge of adventure—and a bit of caution—to our trek. The current Tshorolpa route has been impacted by landslides and floods, leaving some areas without electricity. Additionally, network towers have been damaged, affecting communication in certain spots.

My friends were slower, so I often moved ahead to secure accommodation. After a long hike filled with detours due to landslide-damaged trails, Luckily, I reached Thangding by 4:30 PM and managed to reserve one of the few remaining rooms, as large groups were already filling up available spaces.
The evening in Thangding was filled with camaraderie. The hotel owner even opened the dining hall to accommodate late arrivals who hadn’t found rooms. Sharing stories over dinner, we connected with other trekkers and agreed to rise early to secure our next stop. This day had been challenging but was filled with stunning views, waterfalls, and the sense of solidarity with fellow trekkers.
Day 3: Thangding to Na Village – Into the Heart of the Himalayas
Forming Friendships on the Trail
I left early with Nischal to secure a room in Na Village. we had a more manageable trek compared to the previous day. As we made our way, the scenery opened up to show vast forests and snow-capped peaks. and along the way, he shared fascinating stories about the region’s history and culture, making this day one of the most memorable. The route was easier, mostly downhill or flat, but the scenic views of rivers, mountains, and forests kept our spirits high.We soon reached Beding and had breakfast with trekkers we’d met along the way. The route to Naa Village was gentle and scenic, with mountain ranges all around, making for a memorable day.

A Peaceful Moment at Na Village
We arrived at Na Village around 11 AM, where we had lunch with a clear view of the Himalayas. After a short rest, we set out to meet friends who were making their way up. I paused midway to call my family from a spot where the signal was decent, while Nischal continued further down to receive his friends. While waiting for my friends, I found a quiet spot by the river, enjoying the tranquil sounds and surroundings. This was a rare moment of solitude, a chance to reflect and recharge.
Rested and ready to continue, I took a moment to sit by the river, watching the clouds drift over the peaks. It was one of those peaceful moments that make trekking so rewarding.

Day 4: The Final Stretch – Dudh Kunda and Tsorolpa Lake
Hiking to Dudh Kunda
The final push began early, as we set off at 5:30 AM with minimal supplies, leaving our main bags in Na Village. We made our way to Dudh Kunda with a group led by a local guide, and while the steep path was challenging, the views were worth every step. Snow-capped peaks and the pristine lake gave us a sense of being surrounded by the world’s roof. We lay on the grass by the lake, enjoying the view, the tranquility, and a snack we’d brought from home.

The Shortcut to Tsorolpa Lake
Rather than returning to the junction, we took a shortcut from Dudh Kunda directly to Tsorolpa. Although this path was rough, weaving through rocky areas and landslide paths, it added an adventurous edge to the trek. Finally, we reached Tsorolpa Lake, a serene turquoise body of water surrounded by towering mountains—a perfect ending to our journey. Although Dudh Kunda’s beauty still lingered with us, Tsorolpa had its own charm. We took a few pictures and then started the descent back to our hotel, feeling fulfilled and grateful.
